Engineering
Missionaries International provided technical drawings
of our preferred design
The
design for the new facilities of Hope Clinic Lukuli have
been prepared by John Sauder of EMI (www.emiusa.org) in
consultation with the existing medical staff at the clinic
and with input from the medical professionals among the
Friends of Hope Clinic. The right-hand side of the clinic
has the reception/ cashier, laboratory and two consulting
rooms and so is the focus of the out-patients services.
Further into the building, the right side has the dispensary
and two rooms for confidential counselling sessions. The
central area is for waiting patients and training sessions.

The
left side of the building has a general ward (4 beds),
children's room (2 beds) and a 4-bed maternity/ women's
ward which shares the toilet/ hot showers with two delivery
rooms. This admissions area benefits from mosquito screens
on the windows, nets over beds, a power back-up to ensure
that nights are lit and two patients' bathrooms. Belgian
Development Agency (BTC) funds provided a solar water-heating
system and have since helped us add a hard-standing and
large tent outside the clinic which is used for child
immunisation sessions and meetings.
The
construction followed designs by Engineering Missionaries
International (John and Chet) and our "construction
supervisor" and God-send, M.L. Swanee Schwanz. Swanee's
dedication to our project and the team of Ugandan builders
he has developed has been the huge factor in its rapid
progress.
Support
has been received and is welcome in many forms: helping
us to link with and gain access to an existing programme
seeking an outreach location; links to volunteers and
self-funded individuals with professional expertise for
one day, short term or longer relationships; guidance
on grant providers or offers to link us to a group of
friends looking for a safe project to support. If you
already know of a way to help us or have equipment or
funds please contact us by e-mail and we can discuss it
further. E-mail: support@hcluganda.org I
